Fresh Prince Gets a Remix in Bel-Air

Imagine you’re listening to one of your favorite songs and you hear the famous line REMIX! The beat drops to reveal an amplified version of the older song. You’re rocking out – full of nostalgia and a crisp sense of curiosity on where this remastered melody will take you.

That is what I felt when I watched the trailer of Bel-Air.

I am a huge fan of Will Smith. I grew up watching Fresh Prince, can recite most of his witty punch lines, and I am currently reading his latest memoir, Will (stay tuned for a review). So, when I saw the commercial for Bel-Air, I was hooked.

While critics may argue – why remake old shows when you can create new ones? To that I say, there is something about revisiting an iconic story, where characters can be fully explored, that adds a level of freshness to it.

The cast includes Jabari Banks as Will – watch the emotional video when Will surprises Jabari with the news. Adrian Holmes as Phillip Banks, and he has big shoes to fill, Cassandra Freeman as Vivian Banks, Olly Sholotan as Carlton Banks, Coco Jones as Hilary Banks, Akira Akbar as Ashley Banks and Jimmy Akingbola as Geoffrey.

Peacock will begin streaming the one-hour drama series on Sunday, February 13 – known as Super Bowl Sunday.
